president. What makes a good one or a bad one? Are good leaders always good people? Over the course of history perceptions of what makes good leaders have changed and evolved from the traditional strongman. Today political leaders are reviled as liars and cheats. We no longer look to our politicians to improve our lives. Today polling, special interest groups, corporate donors and radio shock jocks decide policy.

Instead of conviction and standing for something politicians now change beliefs with the opinion polls. Is this what we want our leaders to be and how much responsibility do we bear for the current state of politics? So many people have so many different views about good leaders but almost everyone agrees that the current system isn’t working and needs to be changed.

Leaders have been around since human beings first evolved. Early humans needed someone (usually a strong). That meant that he could provide peice, food, shelter and the best chance of the next generation’s survival. We need leaders because there has to be someone (or in increasing cases someone’s) who makes the decisions. Of course today we have complex democratic governments.

For a long time people didn’t have much say in who ruled them. After the first humans started settling down naturally people started playing to their talents.. It followed that those who had the most useful talents generally became the powerful people. As history progressed these powerful families became the dynasties that we know today.

Sometimes people become leaders through simply being born into the right family. Others seize power and still others are chosen by the people of their country. But do they always choose the right person? Hitler was a democratically elected Leader and despite his evil was certainly one of the great leaders of history. Great leaders aren’t always good and being a good person doesn’t always mean a good or great leader.

Leaders don’t always start out as leaders but all of them are extraordinary people. To be a leader is not only to have privilege it is to have responsibility for those you lead.

Television has played a huge part in educating and informing the public about the political process. But it is only for the government program Television if i am not mistaking.

But this is unfounded. In our criticism of our politicians we often forget that many of them genuinely care about the people they represent and spend hours of their lives working for and listening to their electorate. We forget that politicians, V.president and presidents often do an incredibly hard and thankless job. Of course there are things wrong with the system and it should be criticized but not blindly.

“Because I’m tired of it. Year, after year, after year, after year, having to choose between the lesser of who cares. Of trying to get myself excited about a candidate who can speak in complete sentences. I can hardly look at it. They say a good man can’t get elected. Well, I don’t believe that”.
In the end we live in a democracy.

We elect our leaders, we can replace them. It’s not all the politicians fault. Today we the public are more likely to complain but less likely to do something about it. Membership of political parties is falling, people are less likely to write letters to politicians and many first time voters are simply voting for the party their parents did.

We whine and complain but time after time we elect the same people and then go back to our comfortable lives. If we want to make the our country a better place, if we want good leaders then we can’t get them if we don’t make the effort. To get involved, to join a campaign even to run for political office. To write a letter to our elected leaders, to arrange a meeting with them, this is the way that things are changed. In the end decisions are made by those who show up. To have a good leader we must elect a good leader.

If you got through this then do you agree. How much are we to blame for the problems in politics? What should we do to solve this problem of bad leadership.Since you will spend most of your time trying to make progress, yuo must enjoy what you are doing in order to finish.
